Our SOPS are drawn up by the medical committee and developed in consultation with the membership. They are developed for use by our members and in our particular area. They are not designed to be an authoritative reference and SAVES can take no responsibility for their use by other individuals.

SAVES Clinical Standard Operating Procedures:

SAVES clinical SOPs are currently all under review as part of the development, by BASICS South West, of regional clinical and operational guidelines for use by members of all BASICS schemes in the South Western Ambulance Service region. These will replace SAVES clinical SOPs.

BASICS South West Polices and Clinical & Operational Guidelines

These are gradually being developed by BASICS South West for use by all four schemes working with South Western Ambulance Service. It is foreseen that they will gradually replace most individual scheme SOPs. They are available to members at The BASICS South West website and include:

  • Equipment Checking and Maintenance
  • Intraosseous access using EZ-IO
  • Pelvic Trauma and Splinting
  • Resuscitative Thoracotomy
BASICS South West Clinical and Operational Guidelines under development include:

  • Needle thoracocentesis
  • Use of Chest Drains
  • Thoracostomy
  • Emergency Airway Management
  • Management of Major Haemorrhage
  • Analgesia and Sedation
  • Dealing with the Deceased
  • Spinal Care
